Deskreen's cross-platform screen sharing tool
Deskreen, whose name comes from the combination of Desktop and Screen, is a cross-platform screen sharing tool. It was created by Ukraine developers and made available to users in an open source and free form. Unlike traditional screen-sharing software, Deskreen focuses on turning any device into an auxiliary display for a computer, rather than just mirroring content.
The tool supports the three major operating systems: Windows, macOS and Linux, and only requires a modern web browser on the receiving end and does not require any additional applications to be installed.
1. cross-platform compatibility
The most distinctive feature of Deskreen is its wide compatibility. As a host, it supports Windows, macOS and Linux systems; as a receiver, it can be used on any device equipped with a modern browser, including but not limited to:
Smartphone (Android/iOS)
Tablet (iPad/Android tablet)
Laptop (regardless of operating system)
Smart TV (requires Chrome or Firefox browser)
This design allows users to make full use of idle equipment in their homes without having to purchase additional dedicated hardware.
2. multiple display modes
Deskreen provides three main display modes to meet the needs of different scenarios:
Screen mirroring: Completely display the entire computer screen content on the receiving device, suitable for demonstration and teaching scenarios.
Application window sharing: Only share specific application windows to protect privacy while reducing system burden.
Extended desktop: Use the receiving device as an extended screen on your computer to achieve true multi-screen collaboration (requires a virtual display adapter).
Among them, extended desktop mode is the most valuable feature. It allows users to drag and drop windows onto the auxiliary screen just like using a real second display, greatly expanding the workspace.
3. Easy connection method
Deskreen uses an extremely simple connection method:
Quickly establish connections through QR code scanning
Support manual entry of URL addresses, suitable for devices without cameras
All connections are completed within the local area network without Internet access
This design makes the connection process intuitive and efficient, making it easy for even users with limited technical levels to get started.
4. Multiple devices connected simultaneously
Unlike many similar tools, Deskreen supports connecting multiple receiving devices at the same time to achieve the "wireless one screen multiple projection" function. This feature is particularly useful in scenarios such as teaching and conference demonstrations, allowing multiple people to view the same content at the same time without having to squeeze in front of a single screen.
5. Video quality control
Deskreen provides advanced video quality control functions that allow users to adjust image quality based on network conditions and device performance to find a balance between smoothness and clarity. The system also supports automatic quality adjustment, which can dynamically optimize the display effect based on network conditions.
